With ten years of solo career, Simone Moreno is one of the great news that has happened to brazilian music during the last years.
She was born in Salvador, Bahia, and an interest for music was evoked very early. At only 17, she was singing from the hights of the trio-eléctrico groups throughout Salvador, and she recorded - together with the group Novos Barbaros - the success ´A terra tremeu´, which started as a theme for a famous carneval troup of the city, but ended up as a hit all over Brazil.
In 1994, Simone´s solo career took off, with the record ´Simone Moreno´. It was very well received by critics as well as by the audience, and in this one she recorded music of great composers of Bahia and Rio, such as Caymmi and Gilberto Gil. With the axé song ´Eh moça´, She once more had a hit all over the country.

Then came the CD ´Morena´ (produced by musician and maestro Pepeu Gomes), a parade of the roots of brazilian music. Simone, already set in motion, was singing a variety of styles.
Three years later, Simone had moved to Rio de Janeiro, and unleashed her third record ´Manda me chamar´. She had gone through a period of change, and was now facing the best of brazilian samba music. The album was produced by famous samba producer Rildo Hora. Once again, there was a success among the audience and the critics, and above this, the singer was very well received and
praised by the the great samba composers of Rio (among others Martinho da Vila, Paulinho da Viola and Noca da Portela), who also contributed with songs for the album.

Simone´s latest CD released in Brasil, ´Desde que o samba é samba´, was mainly a tribute to samba and bossa nova composers such as Ary Barroso, Noel Rosa, Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque.
The album was produced by guitarrist and maestro Roberto Menescal - one of the founders of the bossa nova movement - who has produced records for Elis Regina, Emílio Santiago and Leila Pinheiro among others. Working with the CD, Menescal was impressed with Morenos heartful interpretations in the studio and he predicts her to be the next big female singer to join in the row of giants such as Gal Costa, Alcione, Elis Regina and Zizi Possi. Menescal says: ´She´s an expert singer, who captures every situation she sings, and has the force of a wild horse on the stage. But it´s hard to describe, you´d better watch her sing yourself to witness all of her drive, her feeling and her immense energy.´

And now the brand new album ´Samba Makossa´ is coming out, recorded with musicians and producers from the cold North. An exciting crop of the collaboration she has developped during the last years.
And once again, there´s a great chance for the europeans to watch the blooming samba queen in action, on stages closer than the ones between the mountains and the sea of Brazil. Brazil has got soul. And Simone Moreno is funky.
